Troubleshoot Jobs Not Showing On Indeed
Follow the steps below to review common causes and resolve issues that prevent jobs from appearing on Indeed.
Step 1: Confirm Posting And Review Timelines
Verify the posting timeline. Both Indeed Organic Jobs and Indeed Sponsored Jobs may take 3 to 5 business days to appear while Indeed’s Search Quality team reviews your job before publishing.
If visibility is inconsistent (for example, you have 3 live postings but only 2 display on Indeed), contact Indeed’s customer service and request a review/approval of the listing.
Step 2: Verify Feed And Account Settings
Check whether an Admin disabled the Indeed feed on your career site. If disabled, new jobs will not be sent to Indeed.
Step 3: Validate Job Details And Fields
Ensure the job has a Location and Zip Code. Missing either will prevent the job from posting.
Confirm your Company Name matches the name used in the Job Description. Mismatches can block visibility.
Make sure your Job Title matches the Job Description. For example, do not post a catering job title with an HR representative description.
Ensure your Job Title and Job Description align with your Industry selection.
Review the Job Type field:
If set to Future/General Interest Opening, the job may not display on Indeed.
If set to Unpaid Internship, the job may not display on Indeed.
Step 4: Confirm Eligibility And Formatting
Check your business type. Indeed does not accept organic listings from staffing firms, recruiters, or multi‑level marketers. Some sponsored jobs from staffing firms may be accepted.
Ensure the job is formatted correctly so it passes through the ATS feed to Indeed. Necessary formatting items include Job Titles, Job Descriptions, and Additional Job Details collected during posting via the ATS. Refer to your “Format Job Descriptions” user guide for details.
Do not include the location in the Job Title. Indeed will reject titles with locations.
Remove tag lines or exclamatory phrases in the Job Title (e.g., “Work from Home for a fantastic wage!”). These are likely to be blocked.
Do not post career fairs or similar “spammy” listings as jobs. Indeed does not accept these as organic job postings.
For additional guidance, see: Indeed | My job is not shown on Indeed.
Step 5: Understand Sponsorship And Visibility Policies
Important: Jobs posted directly on Indeed must be sponsored when employers also aggregate from sources like a career site, data feed, or ATS.
Free jobs posted directly on Indeed will be paused. You will need to sponsor those jobs to regain visibility in job seeker search results.
Employers or accounts may be subject to this policy, as determined by Indeed. Indeed reserves the right to require sponsorship for any reason.
Indeed makes no promises for organic visibility, even when guidelines are met.
Step 6: Improve Odds Of Organic Visibility
Avoid job blasting. Indeed’s algorithm targets broadly, and attempts to game it can harm visibility.
Refresh jobs only if necessary, at roughly 30‑day intervals. This means creating a new job with a different title, description, and any other relevant updates.
Use precise location. If possible, send a street address; Indeed verifies addresses via an API. Not all jobs have precise locations (for example, some remote or transient roles). Transient roles without a precise location (e.g., repair technicians hired in a city without a company headquarters) will likely need sponsorship.
Include pay. Omitting pay may reduce or remove search visibility.
Avoid links in job questions unless necessary (for example, some compliance use cases may be allowed by Indeed’s algorithm). If possible, include surveys in follow‑up emails instead. When compliance requires links, communicate with your Indeed representative.
Step 7: Use Clean Job Titles (Numeric And Special Characters)
Exclude numbers and special characters from Job Titles. While not strictly prohibited, they do not help Indeed SEO, and similar titles without them typically perform better.
Be aware that such characters may trigger Trust & Safety review. During review, a job may be hidden; if not approved, it could be blocked, broader jobs could be blocked, or isolved Applicant Tracking’s overall feed score could be harmed, reducing visibility.
Step 8: Handle Criminal History, Background Checks, And Drug Testing
Avoid including background check or criminal history statements directly in the Job Description (e.g., “applicants must submit to a background check”). Job boards restrict visibility based on applicable laws, and these statements can reduce distribution.
Use the separate background check/drug testing/criminal conviction disclosure section in the job listing. Information in that section:
Is displayed on your career site and other job boards.
Is not sent to Indeed.
Still informs applicants without negatively impacting Indeed visibility.
Step 9: Integration Update (Faster Sync)
Note: As of May 2025, the integration with Indeed was updated. Your jobs can reach Indeed in hours rather than days. You can also sync job screening questions and view job visibility status within the ATS.
Step 10: When To Ask For Help
If jobs still do not appear consistently, contact Indeed’s customer service to request a review/approval.
Our Support Team can work with you to troubleshoot why your job may not be showing. We do not guarantee Indeed will display your job; we only guarantee we send it to Indeed.
For more information, review Indeed’s Posting Guidelines and contact Indeed Support directly.
Reporting/Troubleshooting/Best Practices
Use the job visibility status within the ATS (available with the May 2025 integration update) to confirm whether a job is expected to appear on Indeed.
Re‑check the Job Title, Job Description, Job Type, Location, Zip Code, and Industry for accuracy and alignment.
If a job is transient or lacks a precise location, consider sponsoring the job to ensure visibility.
Keep pay ranges visible; excluding pay can reduce visibility.
Avoid tag lines, exclamation points, and locations in the Job Title.
FAQs
How long does it take for jobs to appear on Indeed?
Both organic and sponsored jobs may take 3 to 5 business days to appear while Indeed reviews the listing.
Why do only some of my jobs appear on Indeed?
Listings may be under review or blocked due to formatting, field mismatches, or policy restrictions. You can contact Indeed’s customer service for a review.
Do staffing firms get organic visibility on Indeed?
Indeed does not accept organic listings from staffing firms, recruiters, or multi‑level marketers. Some sponsored jobs may be accepted.
Do I need to sponsor jobs posted directly on Indeed?
Direct‑to‑Indeed jobs must be sponsored when you also aggregate from sources like a career site, data feed, or ATS.
Should I include background check or criminal history statements in the job ad?
No. Place that information in the dedicated background check/drug testing/criminal conviction disclosure section so it is not sent to Indeed.
Can I add numbers or special characters to the job title?
It is best to avoid them. They do not help performance and may trigger Trust & Safety review.
Can I include links in job questions?
Avoid links unless required for compliance. If needed, in many cases they are allowed by Indeed’s algorithm, but surveys are better sent via follow‑up emails.
